Blessing of Prayer Shawls

At the 9:00 a.m. Mass on February 5th, Fr. Matt will bless the shawls that have been knitted or crocheted by women in our parish for people in our community who are ill or suffering. The Prayer Shawl Ministry provides shawls and blankets for anyone in need of being wrapped with love and God's healing grace. If you would like to join this ministry or if you know of anyone who would like to receive one of these gifts, contact Lorraine at 530-550-9769 or  lm.turner@sbcglobal.net, or contact the parish office at 587-3595.

Help from Retrouvaille for Couples

Couples that have lost a sense of closeness they once had as marriage partners and are living more like roommates can get help from Retrouvaille. This program teaches couples how to survive and emerge stronger from times like these in their marriages. To register for the February 2012 program beginning with a weekend on February 10-12, call 800-283-5952 or e-mail: sacramento@retroca.com or visit HelpOurMarriage.com.

World Marriage Day

On February 25th, Bishop Jaime Soto will preside at a special 11:00 am Mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in which married couples may renew their wedding vows. An informal reception for couples and their families will follow. Special certificates will be given to couples celebrating milestone anniversaries (10, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 50+). If you are interested in attending this free event, please register at http://www.SacWMD.com or call the Dept. of Evangelization and Catechesis at (916) 733-0123.

Healing After Abortion Retreat March 2-4

Is someone you know suffering after an abortion, perhaps years after the choice? Please consider the Rachel's Vineyard Retreat weekend, March 2-4, in Auburn, sponsored by the Diocese of Sacramento. This unique and effective experience presents the mercy and compassion of God. The retreat is extremely helpful for those who struggle with feelings of shame, anger or grief and for those who have not forgiven themselves or others. Open to women, men, couples, and family members touched by abortion. The cost is $175 per person. Financial assistance is available. For a registration packet or more information, contact Annette at (916) 733-0161 or write projectrachel@diocese-sacramento.org. Inquiries and participation are strictly confidential.

Sept. 2011 Letter to Congress

USCCB Sept. 2011 Letter to Congress: Respect Life Health and Human Service’s new mandate for contraception/sterilization coverage … includes an incredibly narrow exemption for “religious employers” that protects almost no one. For example, a Catholic institution serving the poor and needy would have to fire its non-Catholic staff, refuse life-affirming care to non-Catholic people in need, and devote itself instead to “the inculcation of religious values” to qualify for the exemption. Individuals, insurers, and the sponsors of non-employee health plans (e.g., student health plans in Catholic schools) would have no exemption at all. This effort to corral religion exclusively into the sanctuaries of houses of worship betrays a complete ignorance of the role of religion in American life, and of Congress’s long tradition of far more helpful laws on religious freedom. ~Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and Chair of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, Letter to Congress, September 7, 2011, in support of the “Respect for Rights of Conscience Act” United States.
