First Five Saturdays Devotion concludes May 3

Confessions at 8:30; Mass at 9:00 am;

Rosary to follow
Jan 4, Feb 1, Mar 1, April 5, and May 3

This devotion to Our Lady began on the evening of Dec. 10, 1925, when after supper, Sister Lucy dos Santos (then a postulant in the Dorothean house at Pontevedra, Spain) received a visit by the Child Jesus and the Virgin Mary in her convent cell. Showing the young nun a heart surrounded by thorns, Our Lady said to her:

"See, My daughter, My heart surrounded by thorns which ungrateful men pierce at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude... Say to all those who, for five months, on the first Saturday, confess, receive Holy Communion, recite the Rosary and keep Me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, in a spirit of reparation, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls."

A Belfry for the Church

In October 2013, the church was blessed with a belfry using the 1878 bell from the old church location.

Through the generosity of our parishioners we raised over $20,000 for this effort. Thank you to all who contributed. The belfry and cross is a strong identifier of our Catholic Church, and the pealing historic bell a reminder of our duty and privilege to worship.

Food and Resource Support Center

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, in collaboration with other community organizations, opened the Food and Resource Support Center in September, 2011, at 10111 E Street in historic downtown Truckee to help people in need.

The FRSC provides a hot meal every Thursday between noon and 2 p.m., with the cooking and serving of the meal rotating among members of Assumption Parish, the Lutheran/Presbyterian Church, and the Church of the Mountains. Representatives from social service agencies are present when the mid-day hot meals are served so that clients can apply for needed services. We are currently looking for other churches or organizations to participate in the rotation. The FRSC operates a free Clothing Closet on site for the distribution of used clothing in good condition. Donations of food and clothing can be brought to the FRSC during hours of operation. For monetary donations, please make checks payable to the Food and Resource Support Center and mail to the following: Food and Resource Support Center, c/o Assumption Parish, 10930 Alder Drive, Truckee, CA 96161.
