Volunteer Information

There are many opportunities to serve in our parish. The following are different ministries that you may partake in order to strengthen the life of the Church as well as enrich your own life of faith:
Volunteers needed for the building campaign: Please contact us for more information, call (530) 587-3595 or come to the next campaign meeting listed in the bulletin if you are interested. Thank you!
Liturgical ministries:
Extraordinary Ministers (also known as Eucharistic Ministers):The invitation to serve as ministers of the Eucharist is an honor and a responsibility. In addition to helping with the distribution of the Eucharist, it is the responsibility of Eucharistic Ministers to participate in prayer and study and to lead others to Christ through example.
Lector: Those who serve as lector, proclaim the Word of God at Mass in a prayerful and powerful way. To be a lector is to be given an opportunity for ones own personal growth in Christ Jesus. The lector is entrusted with the crucial task of making the Word of God come alive.
Hospitality: Hospitality is regarded as a sacred duty and the equivalent of welcoming the Lord himself. The gospel reminds us that all small ways of giving and caring will win God’s favor, and result in a great blessing. In extending a welcome to other people we are following in the footsteps of the Master who has room for everybody in his heart. Following Christ in a Christian community means that everyone will feel welcome and there shall be no strangers. All small tasks that we perform in this ministry such as: greeting at the doors those who come to church; invite individuals and families to present the gifts at the altar and appoint individuals to collect the offerings; will accommodate all who come to worship. In doing so this will enhance their experience of the beauty and reverence of our Eucharistic celebration.
Altar Servers ( for boys and girls 4th grade through 8th grade): It has been a long tradition in the church where the young people assist the celebrant during the celebration of the Eucharist. The young people both boys and girls perform a number of tasks that signifies their love and commitment to God and the people. The age requirement for boys and girls in this ministry is fourth grade and above. They will undergo special training that will prepare them for this great opportunity of service. The role of parents is to instill in their children a sense of reverence, commitment and love for the church. Please encourage your children to participate.
Ministry of Music: "He who sings prays twice”. For thousands of years, music has played an important role in encouraging and enhancing prayer both for the congregation and the individual. Today there is a deepening awareness that different musical styles can be of service in liturgical celebrations. There is an universal awareness that all music in the liturgy must serve the needs of the assembled people who praise the Lord. Our understanding and appreciation of the music ministry must be based on the premise that “the church musician is first a disciple and then a minister … not merely an employee or volunteer. He or she is a minister, someone who shares faith, serves the community, and expresses the love of God and neighbors through music.” Music ministry involves presence as well as task. You are more than a voice or an instrument. Whether choir leader, choir member, cantor, instrumentalist or member of the congregation mutual respect and appreciation of everyone involved will lead to authentic worship and excellent community participation. Involvement in the music ministry involves commitment to both rehearsals and liturgies to achieve the spirituality that is essential to parish life.
Art and Environment: This group maintains the altar, chalices, ciboria, crosses, fresh flowers, linens and prepares the church for special events.
Taking care of our Church and God's people:
Church Cleaning: This group is divided into teams of two people who clean the church on a weekday (usually Thurs. or Fri. for a couple of hours when nothing else is scheduled). The teams are scheduled to clean approx. once every other month. The schedule is made 12 months at a time.
Hospital Ministry: Takes Eucharist and visits the patients of the Tahoe Forest Hospital Extended Care Unit. A very rewarding and welcoming ministry.
Religious Education Teachers and Assistants: Baptized & confirmed parishioners and are practicing Catholics, who would like to volunteer in teaching one of our classes: 1st through 8th grade children of our parish. We have a program in place with a teacher's guidebook for each grade. Classes are taught on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays - teachers pick one of these days & a time that best fits your schedule - first come first served as we can only have 2 classes running at the same time. Two teachers are needed for each grade. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your faith, strengthen and deepen your faith, as you teach!
If you would like to volunteer you may call the office at (530) 587-3595 or you may also contact us online to sign up for a ministry.
