Marriages

"At the beginning of creation God made them male and female; for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and the two shall become as one. They are no longer two but one flesh" (Mk 10:6-8)

The Sacrament of Matrimony

The Sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church.  The Sacrament gives spouses the grace to love each other with the same unconditional love that Christ loves His Church; the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the couple, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life.

A Catholic marriage is a vocation by which you are being called by God to enter into a Covenant relationship.  Through that Covenant you will make a promise before God to your spouse and to God within the community of the Church.  As the Body of Christ, the Christian community should be involved in the Covenant to give witness to pledge their support. The Sacrament of Matrimony is a solemn covenant for life.

Matrimony is a sacrament, Church law requires that marriages be celebrated in a sacred place.
